He grew up in Vattensta outside Gimo , educated in Paris and lived and worked for most of his life in Uppsala and Härjedalen, with frequent trips and stays abroad. Ragnar Johansson made himself known as a landscape and portrait painter and is considered one of Sweden's leading mountain painters. He was also a skilled draftsman . Among his public works are the altarpiece in the Almtunakyrkan , Uppsala and the portrait of Jan Fridegård at the Uppsala city library as well as works at the State's portrait collection at Gripsholm
